again

Today has been one of the most soporific days of my life...I have been recording a cd (with an orchestra) of Philip Glass. He is a minimalist composer whose music involves ridiculous amounts of repetition and very little in terms of melody. Sometimes minimalist music can be very mesmeric and meditative - even comforting - but I really felt that what we did today was just plain boring. Maybe it was the recording process as well which necessarily also involves repetition, or maybe it was just that my frame of mind was not taking kindly to the calm static atmosphere. Who knows?

Anyway, my baby girl is better which is brilliant. She will be one in just over two weeks - I can hardly believe it at all (I know it's a cliche but I really can't!).

I am feeling a bit lonely I think at the moment. I am constantly surrounded by wonderful people yet I really am feeling a bit alone. I can't seem to work out why....

So happy that your baby's better Raven.

Strange how lonliness creeps in unexpectedly, isn't it? Is it when we somehow have things/thoughts/feelings we can't share with those around us?

I glad your girl is ok, and I have nieces they grow up so quickly, and you tend to forget that you're growing up yourself at the same time.

I feel lonely most of the time, but it's my own fault for not letting others in. Sometimes I even feel smothered when I'm all by myself.

You probably have a lot on your mind, things you need to sort out on your own. That can make anyone lonely.

Hey it's not fatpants but smartpants!! It wasn't '600 lines' - it was his fourth symphony (heros) and a smaller piece called 'the light'. Terry Riley is a lot more interesting I think...as a conceptualist as well as a musician. I don't have anything against Glass - some of his film scores are really quite effective...and minimalism as an idea is brilliant. I love Steve Reiche's 'Vermont counterpoint' (for flute!) and have performed it a few times which is an awesome experience....it's just, well, I won't be buying this cd when it's released...!
