baby birds

inquisitive!

This morning I was woken by my boy-cat proudly proclaiming (with his mouth full) that he had just caught something. It was a blue tit. I managed to prise it from his mouth with no blood shed and after keeping it warm for a couple of minutes in my (ample) cleveage until it stopped shaking I took the pretty little thing outside and it flew away shouting angrily. I was jumbled with emotions...glad that I had been able to rescue the tiny creature, sad that it had had such a traumatic start to the day and angry with my poor cat for being what he is. I didn't stay angry for long because I couldn't be....he was only doing what he is supposed to do after all and he is generally much too slow-witted to be a competent hunter. It's just a shame that I have to witness his murderous side.

Anyway, then I pressganged my neighbour into coming with me to a 'mother and baby' group. What hideous occasions they are - necessary and beneficial I know, but other mothers all huddling together talking about how well their little angel sleeps and how perfect they are in every way makes me 1)bored mindless 2)intimidated beyond belief as I readily will admit I am far from perfect but doing the best I can... it was much better with K&K next door though, and we shared our amusement at the situation during a group recital of incy wincy spider which involved raising your child above your head every time the darnned spider climbed up that very watery spout...I would have taken a photo but it would have been too invasive in a room full of insecure-but-pretending-to-be-perfect women. Instead I will show you a picture of the shoes Katie bought her little boy in a moment of consumer madness...

The rest of the day was spent very seriously with my girl exploring things in great detail...until my poor little bird baby fell and got a big purple bruise on her forehead. Then we just cuddled and snuggled and gazed at each other until bedtime. Beautiful bonding.

I loved reading this post. You write so well about your life - you make it come alive for me as I read it and I really feel like I'm glimpsing your world. I especially love hearing about motherhood experiences as I'm not a mother yet but hope to be someday in the not-too-distant future. I haven't had any experience with babies and children at all but would like to.
