balance

So I feel as though I have accidentally found myself in a life with the perfect balance between working and being a mum. Because I am freelance I have some degree of control over when I work and how much I work and if I want to take a month off I can without any trouble at all. As my husband is freelance too it also means we rarely need outside help in looking after our daughter which is, to my mind, ideal. It is an area of life that fascinates me - motherhood - we, or at least I, spend so many years building our lives up to creating a career that we crave just to interrupt it drastically by having children. Having a child is the most amazing thing to have ever happened to me and has given me insight into what I want life to mean and into what is truly important...however, without a job that is challenging and something I really love, I think I might go mad with the daily grind of routine and chores. As it is I am not at all bothered about having a house as clean as a show-home or going to classes with my baby to 'stimulate' her as I feel she will learn a lot more and have more fun hanging out and doing stuff spontaneously and a few wonky cushions are quirky not untidy. And just as I begin to wonder whether there isn't something more to me than 'minder of another life' I get some more exciting work in and feel appreciated on all levels. So what I spend a lot of time pondering on is how did clever women contain themselves in the days when they were not allowed to do anything other than mother?

Today the brilliant lad next door got a cool kite in the shape of a turtle and we all watched him fly it in the field next to our street. Yet another example of a simple activity bringing great joy and contentment as we appreciate everything we have...

I am so impressed - congratulations on having balance in your life. Mine is all out of whack. My blog today is the opposite of yours (in a way...)
Greets to the webmaster of this wonderful site! Keep up the good work. Thanks.
