birth art

It never seems to be quite the right moment to post these so I'll do it now....seeing as I just got home from my last concert and am now officially on maternity leave.
I found a really lovely book called 'Birthing from Within' which is all about turning inwards and finding your inner strengths with which to approach birth; an idea I've been playing with for ages now. It also has chapter after chapter on the benefits of birth art - which I also found interesting after experiencing that strong urge recently to draw pictures connected to how I am feeling about things. So I've done some of the suggested drawings from the book and written about them to myself and it's really interesting. I feel my pictures have to be done quite quickly or I become a bit too premeditated about them and therefore perhaps a bit false? So instead I draw quite fast and spontaneously for a short time before really looking at what I've done. I think I am becoming more honest in my pictures this way.
So anyway, here they are for you to see and I would love for you to comment on them and perhaps help me understand myself more - or even point out potential negatives you can see as I want to be in a truely strong fram of mind when it comes to birthing...

This first picture was part of me trying to get rid of some orf the negative feelings I had about myself and the birth of the baby bird. It's fairly obvious I think and just one of a few pictures that are all similar.

Wow- so impressive. I love your drawing style, it's so self-loving and confident.

The first one, because you've used words to describe what you are expressing- is clear and very communicative... So- I could really connect with it- and felt moved by it.

Again you used words in the second one in a way that communicates to me what you are expressing and focusing on. It seems very positive and good that you do these affirming images.

'Being pregnant' is interesting because you have trees and people around you, and you seem completely comfortable with your vulnerability as a pregnant woman- cool. It's wonderful that that is how you feel about motherhood and pregnancy. That can only be wonderfully positive for your children, yourself, and everyone who you come into contact with- true feminism!

Fantasy of labour/birth seems very positive too- you look like you're in complete control of the situation- but what I don't understand is what the black dot is- it looks like its coming out of your stomach? It's like a caesarean, but is it your vagina/birthing?- I'm curious what you see.

All the images express health to me. I'm so amazingly happy for you that this is your relationship to birthing your children. I'm also so happy that you have that cool book! Let me know some of your thoughts about the images and I'll comment some more.

Okay- I just looked at the images again and noticed something... I didn't realize that the 'being pregnant' image was more of an icon, or statue figure... without arms and on a pedestal (in a park?)... It makes me wonder if you are expressing your relationship to being viewed 'as pregnant' or looking at the role of pregancy in the world/culture.

Also- I looked at the birthing one again- and it looks like you're expressing the baby coming out of your stomach in a more figurative way- from pregnant- to birthed.

I was looking at the images zoomed in the first time, and quickly- this is the problem with commenting on people's personal art quickly, and without them to tell you about the image... So sorry if I've written anything foolish or hurtful.
